From multi-family properties to large commercial parking lots, no job is too big or small.
The primary challenge on the Virginia section of the Delmarva Peninsula is sourcing hot mix asphalt for pavement repairs. Since the Machipongo asphalt plant closed nearly a decade ago, hot mix asphalt must be transported from either Pocomoke, Maryland, or Virginia Beach, Virginia. This results in a journey of over 60 miles, causing the asphalt to cool rapidly to below the required temperature.
We have addressed this challenge using a hot box to maintain the asphalt's temperature throughout the journey. This allows us to service clients 24 hours a day - 7 days a week - 365 days a year, anywhere on the Delmarva Peninsula no matter how far the project is from the closest asphalt plant or how cold the outside temperatures are during the off-season in Winter.
Our asphalt hot boxes are used to transport and keep up to 4 tons of asphalt at temperature. Having 2 of these units allows us to service client's projects 24 hours a day - 7 days a week - 365 days a year.
Serving Eastern Pennsylvania

When requesting a proposal from an asphalt company in New Jersey, here is what are the biggest challenges:
We understand how frustrating and stressful it is to call a bunch of companies for the services you need for your asphalt pothole repairs.
"Maybe they call back", "Maybe they answer the phone", "Maybe they respond to the form you filled out on their website", and "Maybe they will show up for the estimate".
MAYBE, MAYBE, MAYBE
The statistics of the poor quality of communication and service, when potential customers call an asphalt contractor, can be found anywhere on the internet when you search review sites.
This is all BEFORE you even sign a contract where the contractor DEMANDS a large upfront deposit just for the pleasure of having them schedule your job. Those scheduled dates usually come and go followed by excuses.
You finally get one to commit to a price and scheduled date and you say to yourself "Sheesh- thankfully the hard part is behind us"
Not So Fast!

Projects Infrared Is NOT An Ideal Repair For:
Unfortunately, infrared is an asphalt repair service that is sometimes exaggerated in its capabilities, which in turn leaves property managers skeptical of the process. The projects below are examples of what infrared asphalt repair cannot fix, and if a contractor claims it can, they are either not being truthful or lack the experience to understand what infrared can and cannot repair.

BASE ISSUES
Asphalt with visible clay stains (Seen mostly in Northern New Jersey) is an indication of base issues that infrared will not fix. The areas need to be excavated and remediated with stone.

Alligator Cracks
Alligator cracks are a sign of base issues and require removal and replacement to properly repair

REPAIRING AREAS WITH UNDERGROUND WATER ISSUES
Underground water requires repair with an underdrain. We can provide this service to remediate it.

LARGE REPAIR AREAS

-
What is infrared asphalt restoration, and how does it work?
Infrared asphalt restoration is a repair method that uses infrared technology to heat and soften damaged asphalt. Once heated, the existing asphalt is blended with new material to create a seamless and durable repair. This method is highly efficient, cost-effective, and eco-friendly, making it an excellent solution for potholes, cracks, and other surface damage.
-
What types of asphalt damage can infrared restoration fix?
Infrared asphalt restoration is ideal for repairing potholes, surface cracks, utility cuts, low areas, and minor surface depressions. It’s also perfect for fixing damage caused by weather, heavy traffic, or improper drainage. However, it’s not suitable for deep structural issues or areas with extensive base layer damage.
-
How long does the infrared asphalt restoration process take?
The process is much faster than traditional methods, typically taking 20-30 minutes per repair area. The exact time depends on the size and scope of the project, but most repairs can be completed within the same day, minimizing disruption.
-
How does infrared restoration compare to traditional asphalt repair methods?
Infrared restoration is faster, more cost-effective, and less disruptive than traditional methods. It eliminates the need to remove and replace large sections of asphalt, reduces material waste, and provides a seamless repair that blends perfectly with the surrounding pavement.
-
How much does infrared asphalt repair cost?
Infrared asphalt restoration is a cost-effective method for repairing damaged pavement, with prices typically ranging from $225.00 - $350.00 per "heat." A Heat is a "3'X6'" section of pavement to be repaired.
This approach is generally more affordable than traditional repair methods, which can cost between $8 and $12 per square foot.
Several factors influence the overall cost of infrared asphalt restoration:
-
How Many Areas: Once a project has over 10 "heats" a discount is applied
-
Minimum Mobilization: If the project has less than 5 "heats," it will incur a minimum mobilization cost unless we are working on a project in the immediate area. If so, the mobilization cost can be waived.
-
Schedule: Projects that require work to be completed outside 7 AM - 4 PM Monday - Friday may be subject to an additional charge to cover additional labor costs for night and weekend work.
-
Geographic Location: Projects outside our everyday service area may be subject to a travel charge to cover labor and fuel.
-
-
Is infrared asphalt restoration environmentally friendly?
Absolutely! Infrared asphalt restoration minimizes waste by reusing the existing asphalt material and requiring fewer new materials. Additionally, it reduces the need for heavy machinery, lowering emissions and the overall environmental impact.
-
Do all infrared asphalt repair companies offer the same type of service?
All infrared asphalt repair companies offer "infrared repairs" but there is many differences once you dice deep.
We prefer to use a DOT I-6 hot mix asphalt for our infrared repairs. We feel the I-6 mix provides a more durable repair and fuses the edges together more thoroughly.
Some infrared companies will use a DOT asphalt with larger stone or recycled asphalt. Both of these products can produce a patch that ravels prematurely and will not last long term. It is very difficult to obtain compaction and bonding of the patch edges (the weakest point of the patch) using asphalt mixes with larger stone or recycled mixes.
Our preferred asphalt to make the repairs with is a NJDOT I-6 or NJDOT I-5 modified to a driveway mix with more fines and less stone.
The above are examples of failed infrared patches.
-
I have another proposal that specifies "thermal repairs" or "hot in-place recycling." Is this still infrared?
Yes. Thermal repairs or hot in-place recycling uses an infrared repair unit to heat the existing asphalt, add new asphalt, and compact it.
Sometimes, a company likes to give their process a different name, but it is an infrared repair process.
