What is Infrared Asphalt Repair?
Infrared asphalt repair is achieved by using specialized equipment to heat the existing asphalt surface to a depth of 1” – 3” deep. Infrared is a true method of “Asphalt Recycling”, whereby this is achieved by heating the existing asphalt “in-place”, adding fresh plant mix asphalt as needed and then spraying a rejuvenator onto the patch before compaction.

The benefits of infrared asphalt restoration are:
  • Creates a truly seamless patch that will not allow water to infiltrate to the sub-base.
  • Can be performed in any weather conditions or temperatures. Infrared asphalt repair is available to be performed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.
  • With our asphalt hot boxes and thermal storage containers, infrared repairs can be made 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, completely independent of the asphalt plant schedules. Repairs can be made during the evening, weekends or during slow periods for your business while your parking lot is not as busy.
  • Environmentally Responsible.
  • Can be opened to traffic in under 1 hour in most cases.

How Infrared Works:
Infrared Process 1 Locate your area of repair and mark out with chalk.
Infrared Process 2 Position the infrared heater over the area of repair. In the case above, we are repairing rutting from car tires which is accumulating water and ice and becoming a tripping hazard.
Infrared Process 3 Scratch rake the area with a steel tooth asphalt rake.
Infrared Process 4 Install fresh plant hot mix asphalt as needed to bring the low area up to grade.
Infrared Process 5 Grade and lute the patch to level the area. If the asphalt is older and oxidized an asphalt rejuvenator will be sprayed onto the patch to re-introduce back some of the asphaltic oils.
Infrared Process 6 Compact the patch with a vibratory plate or asphalt roller.
Infrared Process 7 Completed repairs ready for traffic in 1 – 2 hours.
